Gear Testing: Presso

Taking your java on the road is one of the most important considerations for avid travelers, and several folks have recommended that we take a look at the Presso. Gail tests it out based on the manufacturer’s directions — many other folks have very different techniques for using this and achieving good results, but we were not very successful our first time out. We may try again … but with a few other portable models out there that perform better without a lot of tweaking, we’re not sure if the Presso is the one for us.

  1. Hi Gail,

I always enjoy watching your video. For the Presso, I think you need to put more hot water in and make a small up and down movement of plunger arm to prevent any air column in order to achieve 9 bar pressure. Another tip is that you need to warm the PF and the machine first.
Once you mastered the technique, you will have consistently achieve crema but probably not as much as your high end machine.

    1. Hi Calvin —

Thanks for sharing your tips! I have passed them along to Gail and we’ll incorporate them if we do another round of testing. 🙂

  2. Hi Kat,

Hope you can give some justice to Presso although I have no interest in the company. Own one but seldom use now. I know you have been hearing this for many times, but all of us who have been watching your videos really curious about the Kat behind the scene.

Learn a lot from your videos. Thank you so much.

    1. We may try it out again — although we followed the manufacturer’s directions and those are the results we got, so that tells us something. But I do appreciate your tips and have compiled all the different tricks we received so if we decide to do it again, perhaps we’ll get better results.

Thank you for watching! Always glad to hear when our videos are helpful 🙂
