I have a Gaggia MDF grinder that I set to the coarsest grind and a Bodum 8-cup press. I use a French roast coffee from a local roaster (Daybreak Coffee Roasters). I boil the water in a kettle. As water his just about to boil, I measure out three scoops (about right for my morning 12 oz mug). I then pour the water over the grounds in the French press at a medium pace, set kettle aside, and stir for 20-30 seconds. Then the lid goes on and I wait for four minutes before evenly and steadily, with the weight of my hand, plunging the filter down.

Now that I’ve watched your educational, not to mention comical, video, I may try out the half-way plunge at the 2-minute mark to see what the difference is. Also, the French press Gail used may be in my not-too-distant future.

Thanks for yet another fun video. :)

Thanks for sharing this — love your process! Let us know what you think of the mid-way plunge and, if you pick up the Espro press, how you like that. It definitely takes the ‘sludge’ out. :)
